WHO WE ARE
Steve Eaton initiated Bali Eco Cycling in 1998 with a mission to create genuine, unique and memorable experiences for visitors and create meaningful employment to members of the local community. When he retired to care for his family back in Australia, Steve entrusted the Bali Eco Team under the leadership of Kadek Krishna Adidharma, the third generation of a Bali Aga (Mountain Bali) family to lead Lakeview Hotel and Restaurant in Kintamani where the signature Bali Eco Educational Cycling Tour started from. Kadek and Steve delight in taking travellers away from the tourist traps and showing them the "real" Bali. They discovered that building Bali Eco as a social enterprise enabled the Bali Eco family to live with dignity while contributing to Balinese society.

Aristotle discussed how humans learn through imitation (mimesis). At Bali Eco, we show you the many Bali ways of doing things to inspire reflection of how you do things in your daily lives. There is no one single right way, just the one that is right for you... Was it Oscar Wilde who said "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" ? We were certainly flattered when in 2018, we were summoned by the regent of Gianyar to share our standard operating procedures and risk assessments with approx 150 copy-cat operators (in Gianyar district alone, at the time, with Bali operators estimated between 200-300 that year) who were running versions of our Bali Eco Cycling tour. We shared our open source methodologies to encourage guest safety, as we wanted to raise the game and industry reputation. We continue to innovate and update our routes: Some guests have been on the same tour 11 times and still find they have learned something entirely new!
